The Abbott and Costello Show season 2 is the second — and final — season of Abbott & Costello’s foray into television. It continues the status quo of the previous season. Abbott and Costello are living in Sid Fields‘ boarding house, perpetually broke, and tyring to find a way to pay their bills.
Since Bud and Lou are five months behind on their rent, their landlord Sid Fields demands the boys take out life insurance policies that name him as beneficiary.
The very first episode of The Abbott and Costello Show is The Drug Store. It begins with the classic Jonah and the Whale routine in front of the audience, very well done. Next comes a flurry of Abbott and Costello routines. Walking into their boarding house, Lou is assaulted by a woman. “How dare you remind me of someone I despise?” And they try to sneak into their room, only to fail. And Lou gets assaulted by the landlord, leading to the “I’d like to see you do that again!” routine.
The Dentist’s Office – The Abbott and Costello Show season one – originally aired December 12, 1952
The Abbott and Costello Show episode The Dentist’s Office begins with Abbott and Costello doing the You’re 40, She’s 10 routine for the audience. Then it’s off to the dentist, where the lovely Hillary Brooke is the assistant, and Mr. Bacciagalupe (Joe Kirk) is waiting ahead of them. The screams and noises nearly scare off Lou, until Hillary reassures him. The Dentist (Sid Fields in disguise) drags Lou into the office, and begins unwrapping him.
In the Getting a Job episode of the Abbott and Costello Show, the comedy starts quickly. Bud Abbott has gotten a job at a bakery, making loaves of bread, leading to their classic “Loafing” routine. Afterwards, Bud decides to get Lou Costello a job … After looking in on their pet chimp Bingo, who throws wet rags at Lou.
Lou Costello has a new job, selling aluminum pots and pans — and he plans to cook dinner at Mr. Fields’ apartment with them to demonstrate them.
Soon afterward, Bud and Lou con the poor food vendor, Mr. Bacciagalupe (Joe Kirk), out of some tomatoes, and start a running gag with throwing tomatoes at Officer Mike (Gordon Jones)– first by Lou, then Bud, then Officer Mike does it to Mr. Bacciagalupe. At the apartment, Bud has gotten a live duck for the roast dinner, for Lou to “dress” it … only for Bud informing him that the duck has to be killed, and to keep the feathers, since they’re “down” leading into their “down off a duck” routine.
